A foreign national may acquire Ukrainian citizenship through several pathways provided by the Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship of Ukraine".

Who is eligible?
A person who, or whose parents, grandparents, siblings (full or half), children, or grandchildren:
were born or permanently resided before August 24, 1991, in the territory that became part of Ukraine;
were born or lived in territories that were part of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR), the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic (WUPR), the Ukrainian SSR, Transcarpathian Ukraine, etc.
📝 Requirements:
Provide documentary proof of origin;
Be stateless, or submit a commitment to renounce foreign citizenship.
In cases of special service to the state, the President of Ukraine may grant citizenship.
A foreign minor adopted by a citizen of Ukraine acquires Ukrainian citizenship.
Not automatic, but:
The foreigner must be married to a Ukrainian citizen for at least 2 years;
Must legally and permanently reside in Ukraine.
They can then apply for Ukrainian citizenship.
⚠️ It is mandatory to pass a Ukrainian language proficiency exam.
Available for foreigners who:
Have resided continuously in Ukraine for 5 years (or 2 years if married to a Ukrainian citizen);
Possess Ukrainian language skills;
Have a legal source of income;
Submit a commitment to renounce their foreign citizenship.
Foreigners serving under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine may obtain citizenship through a simplified procedure (especially during martial law).
