After receiving your application and the complete set of required documents, the Embassy will send a request to the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for a background check to ensure there are no grounds for denying citizenship by territorial origin. This verification typically takes up to 1 month.

If the background check is successfully passed, the Embassy will make a decision on granting citizenship by territorial origin and will issue a certificate of registration as a citizen of Ukraine.

⚠️ IMPORTANT!

From the date of the decision to grant citizenship, you will have 2 (two) years to complete the procedure of renouncing all current foreign citizenships you held at the time of the decision.

If you fail to fulfill the commitment within two years, the decision on acquiring citizenship by territorial origin will be revoked. In the event of revocation, you will no longer be eligible for the citizenship by territorial origin procedure.

You may still apply for restoration of Ukrainian citizenship, but only if you can document valid reasons for not having renounced your previous citizenships.
