The Republic of Peru recognized Ukraine’s independence on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 7, 1992.
In September 1993, the Ambassador of Peru to the Russian Federation, Mr. Armando Lecaros de Cossio, presented his credentials to the President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, as the first non-resident Ambassador of Peru to Ukraine.
On August 18, 2003, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 861/2003, Mr. Ihor Hrushko was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Peru. He became the first Ambassador of Ukraine to Peru.
In October 2003, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Peru was officially inaugurated in Lima.
By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 48/2013 of January 29, 2013, Mr. Oleksandr Mykhalchuk was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Peru.
By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 171/2018 of June 19, 2018, Mr. Ihor Tumasov was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Peru.
By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 872/2022 of December 23, 2022, Mr. Yuriy Polyukhovych was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Peru.
