On October 29, 2025, the Government of Ukraine approved amendments to the decree that, in February 2022, had established a temporary procedure for extending the validity of passports and including information about children in them. This decree was adopted on the fifth day of Russia’s full-scale invasion due to the shutdown of Ukraine’s passport system, which made it impossible to issue new documents. For this reason, as an exceptional measure, a temporary procedure was introduced to extend the validity of passports and allow the inclusion of children’s data.
However, the legislation of most countries around the world allows border crossing only with passports (usually biometric) that are valid for no more than 10 years.
As of October 29, 2025, the passport extension procedure has been cancelled. Ukrainian citizens whose passports are about to expire may contact the Embassy of Ukraine in Peru to apply for a new biometric passport for themselves and their children.
