The Consul registers marriages exclusively between two citizens of Ukraine.

To conclude a marriage between a citizen of Ukraine and a foreign citizen, it is necessary to apply to the competent authorities of the country of residence.

ATTENTION!

• An apostille cannot be affixed to a marriage certificate issued by the Embassy. This significantly complicates the use of such a marriage certificate abroad, since foreign officials at various levels are often unfamiliar with the rules regarding apostilles and the forms of legalization applicable to documents issued by diplomatic missions.
• It should also be taken into account that after marriage, if one of the spouses adopts a new surname, both the internal Ukrainian passport (ID card) and the international passport must be replaced. If an application for the replacement of these documents is not submitted within 30 days, such documents become invalid and are subject to confiscation by the competent authorities. An international passport with the new married surname may only be issued after presentation of an internal Ukrainian passport (ID card) already reflecting the changed surname.
