If, while staying abroad, you have lost your passport, had it stolen, your passport has expired, or you have never been issued any identity document, you can still return to Ukraine. For this purpose, there is a special temporary document — the Emergency Travel Certificate for Return to Ukraine (Emergency Passport).
The Emergency Travel Certificate for Return to Ukraine is a document that:
It is important to understand that this is not a passport. The Certificate for Return to Ukraine is issued solely for a one-time return to Ukraine, has a limited period of validity (generally up to 30 days), and does not replace an international passport for future travel abroad.
Important!
The Emergency Travel Certificate for Return to Ukraine is not a biometric travel document. Therefore, it does not entitle the holder to visa-free entry or transit through countries that require a biometric passport, including the Schengen Area. If you plan to return to Ukraine through the territory of such a country (for example, Poland), after obtaining the Certificate for Return to Ukraine, you must first contact the diplomatic mission or consulate of the respective country to obtain a transit visa or another document authorizing entry into or transit through that country. Accordingly, the Certificate for Return to Ukraine may be used to return to Ukraine via a third country only if you comply with that country's immigration requirements and possess the necessary visa or other transit authorization.
Persons aged 16 and over must apply for the Emergency Travel Certificate in person.
For children under the age of 16, the application must be submitted by their parents or other legal representatives.
